Testimonials ITT Undergraduates: The lecture was very interesting and well explained. The explanations were clearly understood and the materials were very useful. I found the presentation very informative and interesting. I think all teachers should receive this type of training. The whole thing was well presented and easily understood. It certainly raised my awareness. The delivery was interactive and kept the audience interested. The course was easy to follow and understand and the materials were very appropriate bringing visualization to the session. Very good presentation, I will use the information and change the way I teach. A stimulating experience. Fun! It raised my awareness of important issues. Thankyou. I realized that although children may appear to understand and speak the language they may not necessarily be able to speak/understand in another environment/context. ITT Postgraduates: It was an excellent course. Thanks for the help and insight. It brought clarity to my understanding. Very good examples and lots of useful information. The course delivery was clear and organized. The presentation was clear and easy to understand. I learnt not to assume understanding of context and situations and be more aware of my language in the classroom. Its great having specialist people coming in and having discussions. It was fantastic to see how students learn language. The bit about the young girl learning English really hit home. It was particularly useful to have my awareness raised as I have no experience of ethnic minority groups. Teachers/LSAs/Headteachers: It’s nice to be delivered by an ‘expert’, backed up by research and someone who is passionate about their field. An excellent overview of language and its implications for teaching and learning. I have a much better understanding of how my EAL children interpret things and learn. I found everything really useful. It made me aware of the need to think about how to use language when I’m speaking to the children. It made me very aware of the use of language across the curriculum. I felt the course was really good and gave a good understanding of the problems that EAL pupils face. It was great top learn why EAL children often write and say different things. A good overview of language and the implications for teaching and learning. It was so useful in seeing how to support language development and how strategies used for EAL students can be used with all students. I found out the importance of supporting pupils who are not new to English (Advanced bilingual learners). It was very informative and interesting. The awareness of language used in science particularly in questioning and the development of understanding. A very good balance of EAL focus and science focus. Well done. I found it particularly interesting to hear reasons why EAL children have difficulties with SATs. I think much of this applies to other pupils as well. I was amazed how relevant this is to all ***** children. It’s a scary thought how language impoverished our non-EAL children are. So, good practice for all. Course Organisers: Adrian is a very significant role model to upset the expectation of language issues as being 'female'. (Language Acquisition using EAL as a Context) – PGCE Secondary Coordinator. Of all the training delivered to this year’s QTS teachers, this had the best evaluations of all. (How to Recognize and deal with Racist Incidents) – Equalities Officer, LA. Everything I need to go away and meet Ofsted and the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000 requirements. – Headteacher. We have many new staff who have not had his kind of training before and it was all useful to ensure a consistent approach. – Headteacher. An eye opener, brilliantly delivered. Well done. – Equalities Coordinator.
